Lubricants with irregularities – The National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) seized 137,984 liters of irregular lubricants in the first half of this year, according to its bulletin for the period.
The seizure of products is one of the ANP’s actions for lubricants and fuels to prevent the use or sale of goods or products that do not comply with current legislation. The seized products are under the custody of a faithful custodian.
According to the agency, the seizure of lubricants totaled approximately 568 thousand liters last year.
Large volumes seized in Ceará and Goiás
Among the main incidents highlighted by the agency in relation to lubricating oils is the seizure of almost 11 thousand liters of unregistered product, in March, during an operation in Ceará, in partnership with the State Consumer Protection and Defense Program (Decon) of the State.
Another major seizure occurred in May, in Operation Quali-Quanti, in Goiás, which inspected 32 municipalities and 123 economic agents in the state. During the operation, 5,460 liters of lubricating oil without registration with the ANP were seized.
Seizure of lubricants is greater than that of gasoline and other fuels
Lubricating oils were the products with the highest volume of seizures by the agency in the first six months of the year, followed by marine diesel oil (118 thousand liters), C gasoline (84 thousand liters) and hydrated ethanol (73 thousand liters).

Analysis of collected samples
According to the ANP’s Supply Inspection Superintendence (SFI), in these six months, analyses carried out on lubricating oil samples identified the lack of additives as the irregularity with the highest occurrence (43.33% of the total), followed by problems in viscosity (30%).
Issues linked to the basicity index, that is, the oil’s ability to neutralize combustion residues or acidic compounds, represented 16.7% of irregularities. The presence of vegetable oil (6.67%) and ester (3.33%) represented the other technical non-conformities.
