ASTM International and ABNT sign memorandum
ASTM International and the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards – ABNT signed a Memorandum of Understanding, on September 24, which will allow the direct adoption of ASTM International standards in Brazil to increase ABNT’s support to public and private sector stakeholders in Brazil and assist in the development of Brazilian national standards.
In addition to the memorandum, a commercial agreement was signed between the two entities on September 24th.
Ricardo Fragoso, general director, and Nelson Al Assal Filho, standardization director, signed the two agreements on behalf of ABNT. Kathie Morgan, President, and Teresa Cendrowska, Vice President, Global Cooperation signed for ASTM International.
The president, along with Jim Thomas, vice president of sales and marketing, signed the commercial agreement. “We at ASTM International recognize the importance of ABNT’s work with the Brazilian and global standards communities,” said Morgan. “We look forward to continuing a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship with ABNT, as permitted by these agreements.”
“ABNT is very pleased and gratified – and I am personally too – to enter into this updated memorandum and trade agreement with ASTM International, as both agreements are fully aligned and will help advance ABNT’s organizational mission, vision and values. ,” commented Fragoso.
Cooperation with ASTM under these agreements will support ABNT in responding efficiently to the needs of the market and society, providing Brazilian society with knowledge that enables the production, delivery and competitive and sustainable use of goods and services in domestic markets and external and contributing to scientific and technological development, environmental protection, consumer protection, health and innovation.
Although ASTM and ABNT have a long-standing commercial agreement, the new agreement will enhance that collaboration, allowing ASTM to expand the accessibility of its standards and services to all Brazilian companies, organizations and universities.
ABNT was founded in 1940 and was officially adopted by the Brazilian government in 1962.
