Integration, Knowledge and Celebration

On July 1st and 2nd, the Windsor Barra Hotel in Rio de Janeiro hosted the 15th International Market Meeting – South America, hosted by Editora Onze, also responsible for publishing Lubes em Foco magazine.

The event, already established as one of the most important in the lubricants and base oils sector in the region, brought together professionals, companies, and experts for two intense days of knowledge sharing, networking, and celebration.

This year, the meeting had a special flavor: Lubes em Foco magazine celebrated its 18th anniversary, completing 18 years of dedicated technical information and promoting the lubricants market. The celebration was marked by a vibrant atmosphere, record attendance, and a robust program. The event welcomed a record-breaking 538 participants from various countries and 175 national and international companies.

At the event’s opening, presenter Ângela Belmiro thanked the 20 sponsoring companies and the 30 companies that set up their booths in the exhibition area for their collaboration. She then handed the floor to Pedro Nelson Belmiro and Gustavo Zamboni, directors of Editora Onze, the event’s promoter. They welcomed attendees and announced the program, featuring 19 lectures by renowned experts, covering topics such as economics, technological innovation, the national and international lubricating oil market, and trends. In his address, Gustavo Zamboni emphasized the importance of understanding the evolution of Artificial Intelligence, its applications, and its impact on industrial processes.

High-level technical content

The traditional opening lecture on the Brazilian Economic Outlook once again featured Jonathas Goulart, Chief Economist of the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FIRJAN).

The Brazilian lubricants market was well discussed, with a presentation of its figures by Pedro Nelson Belmiro, Editor of Lubes em Foco magazine. Belmiro highlighted the current difficulty in obtaining consistent figures from the ANP system and the expectation that the newly implemented system will improve this reliability. Following this, Alexandre Bassaneze, CEO of Iconic Lubrificantes, a market leader, provided an overview of the Brazilian lubricants market, highlighting its challenging current situation, technological trends, and market projections. Global markets were addressed by Harry Henderson, President of K&E Petroleum Consulting, while Amanda Hay, Deputy Managing Editor for the Americas at I.C.I.S., presented on the dynamics of the base oils market in the Americas.

Furthermore, two thematic panels enriched the discussions on the first day:

Sustainability Panel: With the participation of Roberta Miranda Teixeira (Director of Iconic Lubrificantes and panel moderator), Ana Mandelli, Distribution Manager of the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas – IBP, Valeria Amoroso Lima, President of the Board of Directors of MGS and Aylla Kipper, Vice-President of the Environmental Association for collection, management and re-refining of OLUC – Ambioluc.
Base Oils Panel: An in-depth discussion with key players in this segment provided an in-depth analysis of supply, demand, and outlook for base oils in the Brazilian market. The panel, coordinated by Pedro Nelson Belmiro, was enlivened by the presence of Ulysses Donadel, representing Petrobras as a major local producer; Marcelo Guimarães of Iconic Base Oil as a major importer of base oils; and Thiago Trecenti, CEO of Lwart Soluções Ambientais, a leader in the national re-refining segment.

Lwart’s 50th anniversary celebration cocktail party

The traditional cocktail reception at the end of the first day, served in the exhibition area, was specially sponsored this year by Lwart Soluções Ambientais, which celebrated its 50th anniversary with all attendees. The Trecenti family-owned company, based in Lençóis Paulista, São Paulo, also presented its expansion plans for the near future, increasing its production of Group II base oils.

Exhibition area: business and networking

The event also featured an exhibition area with 30 booths, bringing together national and international companies showcasing their products, technologies, and services. The interaction between exhibitors and visitors, benefited from the event’s special and exclusive app, which enabled meeting scheduling and information sharing, was intense, generating business opportunities and strategic partnerships.

Focus on technology
