Vehicle licensing falls – One day before the end of August, the Brazilian automobile market signals a fall in July sales. Until Wednesday, 8/30, the sector totaled 181.6 thousand vehicles registered, 15.8% less than in the previous month, which was the best in 31 months.

The slump may be slightly lower, as sales in the second half of the month were slightly better than in the first. On August 30, 9.9 thousand vehicles were licensed.

According to the consultant Marcelo Cavalcante, the results of the last day of the month could show a strong growth of direct sales, especially for rental companies. “Our forecast is still from 190 thousand to 197 thousand units”, he said.

Even in the best case, the month’s result will mean a significant decrease from the 215 thousand vehicles delivered in July. “Even though it will be a good month. But the retail stagnation is a concern for the next months”, said the consultant.

Most brands sold less in the first 30 days of August. Fiat led the market again with 43.2 thousand units, just 2.8% less than in July, showing it can close the month even or with marginal growth.

General Motors was the second with 27.4 thousand deliveries (-7.8%), followed by Volkswagen, which sold only 26 thousand automobiles and light commercial vehicles, declining by 37.5%. In July, the German brand reached 41.6 thousand units.

Strada returned to the first place among the bestselling vehicles. The compact pickup sold 12.3 thousand units in thirty days and easily overcame July’s 10.4 thousand deliveries.

On the other hand, the Volkswagen Polo, last month’s leader with 16.5 thousand units, was only third so far in August with 7.5 thousand sales – right after the Chevrolet Onix with 7.6 thousand – and shows as the main responsible for VW’s slump, the largest among the large volume brands together with Hyundai.
