Rerefining plant for used lubricating – Enex and Recvoil celebrated, in a joint collaboration project, the laying of the first stone of what will be the only industrial processing plant in Chile that will produce base oils from used lubricating oils (ALU).

The project involves an investment of US$7.5 million and will be located in the commune of San Antonio, Valparaíso Region. This plant will have a revaluation capacity close to 10% of the ALUs market and will generate high-quality products, avoiding the emission of 19,449 tons of CO2 per year, which makes it a contribution to the circular economy.

“This will be a plant specialized in the management and revaluation of ALUs, which will apply industrial refining and regeneration processes, in addition to contributing to the companies responsible for taking care of this priority waste according to the REP law”, explained the general manager of Recvoil, Hernando Holguin G.

Sustainability Collaboration

Enex agreed to participate together with Recvoil in technical, commercial aspects and as a supplier of ALUs -collected by its management system- that will be used as raw material for the re-refining process.

“At Enex we have a commitment to sustainability, where waste management and -in particular- the management of ALUs, is fundamental. Thus, supporting the development of this innovative plant is a relevant step to move towards a circular economy, as well as to comply with the requirements of the REP Law”, commented Álvaro Ruiz, Lubricant Sales Manager at Enex.

The recovery and recovery of used oils will be carried out using high molecular vacuum distillation technology and will have a processing capacity of 1,500 L/hr. Dehydration and separation of Nafta 8 and Diesel.

In the next 18 months, the production of recycled bases will be available, which will be tested and certified in the Enex laboratories. In this way, the market will have lubricant bases of national production, which can be used in the local market and/or be exported.
