The Usiquímica Group published a statement at the end of December announcing the purchase of YPF Brazil’s lubricant operations, without providing further details about the acquisition. The agreement includes the signing of a licensing agreement for YPF’s lubricant brands, with production at the Diadema plant, in the ABCD region of São Paulo, ensuring that YPF’s lubricant products will remain present in Brazil.
With over 80 years of experience in the production and sale of chemical products in the Brazilian market, Usiquimica says that the deal was closed on Christmas Eve, on Monday, the 23rd, when it signed the contract to acquire YPF Brasil Comércio de Derivados de Petróleo, a company 100% controlled by the Argentine YPF S.A., dedicated to the production and sale of YPF lubricants in Brazil, holding a 2% market share in the country.
YPF has been in Brazil since 1998, with its own factory since 2015, with a production capacity of 47 thousand tons per year. Through continuous investment in product development, the company seeks the highest technology in lubricants with a wide range of products and exclusive TEC technology, ensuring specific protection, total yield and excellent performance for each type of engine.
Usiquímica was inaugurated on May 8, 1943 and began producing Concentrated Nitric Acid in the city of São Paulo, to meet the demand of the Southeast region. It later became the leading manufacturer of Ammonium Hydroxide in Brazil and a leader in the distribution of Hydrochloric Acid, Anhydrous Ammonia, Sodium Hypochlorite, Nitric Acid and Hydrofluoric Acid. It is also one of the main players in the Arla 32 market. The company is run by the third generation of the Gimenez family and has expanded its range of products, undergoing a constant modernization process.
Today, Usiquímica has one of the most modern chemical product distribution facilities in Brazil and the largest and most sophisticated Ammonium Hydroxide production plant in the country. Its tank facilities have a storage capacity of over one million liters for different applications.
In addition, its bottling unit has a capacity of 30 thousand liters per hour. The entire production, bottling and loading process is monitored by the state-of-the-art SDCD system, which ensures high reliability and safety.
Its entry into the automotive industry culminated in the signing of a brand licensing agreement with Valvoline. Under this agreement, Usiquímica became the exclusive holder of the rights to use the brand in the country for the manufacture, import, distribution and promotion of products, and was responsible for the areas of sales, marketing, design of the business strategy and its implementation, as well as managing the day-to-day commercial and after-sales operations.
This new partnership consolidates Usiquímica’s presence in the Brazilian automotive market.
