Waste oils collected in italy
Waste oils collected in italy – CONOU gold medal of the circular economy also for 2021. From collection to regeneration, used lubricating oil can transform – if managed correctly – from a highly dangerous waste to an important resource. Confirmation comes from the new Sustainability Report, a document through which the Consortium tells its stakeholders about the activities of its Supply Chain, highlighting the results achieved in the environmental, economic and social fields.
In the past year, CONOU collected 186,000 tons of used mineral oil. In fact, almost all of the amount that can be collected. After the drop in consumption due to the pandemic, there was thus a + 8% compared to 2020. More than 98% of the oil collected was sent for regeneration. Data that confirm the Consortium of excellence in the circular economy also at a European level, given that in the Old Continent only 61% of the oil collected is regenerated (while the collection registers just over 41% compared to 46% in Italy). But there is more: the high percentage regenerated has allowed a significant lightening of the country’s energy balance.
“The optimistic forecasts of a 2021 with a trend of attenuation of the pandemic crisis and market recovery were sharply impacted by the increase in energy prices. In this difficult scenario – underlines Riccardo Piunti, President of CONOU – the precious balancing role of the Consortium realized in the Supply Chain has allowed not only to safeguard but even improve the collection and regeneration activity, making us a paradigm of excellence and a point of attention in Europe. . ”
Finally, the CONOU stands in Europe as an advanced and run-in example for almost 40 years of application of the EPR system (Extended Producer Responsibility), arousing interest and attention from countries that, at the moment, have not yet fully embarked on this direction.
