Meet the Market International Conference
The XII Meet the Market International Conference – South America, promoted by Editora Onze, also publisher of Lubes em Foco Magazine was held on July 6 and 7 at the Windsor Hotel Florida – Rio de Janeiro, for an audience of 352 people. It was the first in-person event of lubricants after the pandemic period and brought to the participants updated technological news and a privileged space for networking in the lubricants market segment.
During two days, representatives of more than 84 Brazilian and international companies linked to the lubricants sector, as well as independent consultants, were able to have access to highly relevant information to their business, with a very comprehensive overview of the issues that impact the market.
And so, in the opening lecture of the first day of the event, the Chief Economist of the Federation of Industry of the State of Rio de Janeiro – FIRJAN, Jonathas Goulart spoke about the Brazilian Economic Scenario and its perspectives, bringing highly specialized information about what is happening in Brazil and the world in the economic area and the impacts on the industrial sector.
The figures of the Brazilian lubricant market were presented, as usual, by the editor of lubes em foco magazine, Pedro Nelson Belmiro, followed by the producer’s vision for the segment, in the words of Alexandre Bassaneze, CEO of Iconic Lubrificantes, leader of the Brazilian market.
In a broad approach to the market, Alexandre recalled issues of impact and opportunities for producers, such as the aging of the vehicle fleet in Brazil, with the exception of motorcycles, the issues of infrastructure and energy transition and the importance of providing services to consumers, especially at a time when counterfeitproducts bring great concern to producers.
Electromobility
A panel on electromobility and its impacts on the lubricants industry had special lectures of high level of knowledge, given by associate professor of the Energy Planning Program of COPPE / UFRJ, Roberto Schaefer, and the Superintendent of Petroleum Derivatives and Biofuels of the Energy Research Company – EPE, Angela Oliveira da Costa. It was clear to the participants that automotive electrification is irreversible and will be implemented with certainty, however, the deadline for this in a country like Brazil is what becomes the big issue of the industry. According to Professor Roberto, “up to 2050, the participation of electromobility in Brazil is relatively discreet, even in ambitious mitigation scenarios”.

However, the country’s large capacity to produce biofuels may not be sufficient to counter the trends of the global automotive industry. Angela Costa believes that there will be a predominance of hybrid vehicles, reaching, in 2050, 72% of sales in the market, leaving for pure electric vehicles 11%, with internal combustion vehicles still surviving with 17%.
Sustainability
Sustainability was one of the main themes of the event and was addressed with great objectivity and precision by the participants of the second panel. The Executive Director of Downstream of the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas – IBP, Valéria Amoroso Lima, presented relevant aspects about sustainability in the Oil and Gas Industry, highlighting the work of the Institute’s ESG Commission.
