Brazilian automotive production

There were 205,900 units produced in the month, growth of 10.7% over April. Also for the first time in 2022 there was growth over the same month of the previous year, of 6.8% – coincidentally, it was in May of last year that the lack of electronic components began to generate the first relevant impacts on the Brazilian automotive sector.

Gradually, the production of vehicles is recovering from the restrictions imposed by the global semiconductor crisis. Even with occasional stops in some factories, the total volume produced in May for the first time in the year exceeded the mark of 200 thousand units, a feat that had not occurred since last December.

With production on the rise and more working days, May also recorded good results in sales to the domestic market, with growth for the fourth consecutive month, according to the balance sheet of the National Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (ANFAVEA).

The 187,100 licensed vehicles represented an increase of 27% over April, almost tying with the result of May 2021 (here there was a slight reduction of 0.9%). The daily average of 8,500 units was the highest of the year, growing 10% in relation to April.

Exports perform well

Exports of 46,100 units in May represented an increase of 2.8% over the previous month and 24.6% over May 2021. In the accumulated result for the year, 19.4% more units were exported than in 2021, and 27% more in value, thanks to the good performance of Brazilian products in markets such as Colombia and Chile, among other Latin American countries.

“It is noteworthy the consistency of market growth, one step every month since the beginning of the year, for sales and production. Exports have already started the year on a high, and remain so. As the historical trend of our sector is for a more robust second semester than the first, we are very optimistic about the maintenance of this good pace of recovery”, said Márcio de Lima Leite, President of ANFAVEA.
