Brazilian Lubricant Market
Continuing the recovery process started in the second half of last year, the Brazilian lubricant market closes the semester with a volume of 736,688 m3, representing an increase of 24.7% compared to the same period in 2020, and also growing 9.1%, compared to 2019. With a historic record broken in the months of February and March, the monthly volume returns to a level even slightly higher than the monthly average of recent years.
The recovery in June (118,745 m3) compared to May (115,566 m3) occurred mainly in the passenger car segment. Other segments such as maritime and agricultural spraying were also on the rise, but without a large impact on the total due to the low share of the total market.
Iconic continues to lead the market with a market share of 18.6%, followed by BR with 16.0%, Moove (Cosan) with 13.8%, Shell with 11.5% and Petronas completing the list of TOP 5, with 8.6%. Then we see YPF, Energis8, Quaker, Castrol and Total completing the group of the 10 largest companies, in terms of sales volume.
Base oils
The month of June showed a drop in the import of base oils, which can be considered a natural movement, after the large volume imported in the first months of the year. In total, imports were 473,359 m3 in the first half of 2021, representing practically half of the national market, which stood at 943,017 m3.
Produced in national refineries, we had a total of 464,679, with 88% of this volume produced by REDUC in Rio de Janeiro, and the remaining 12% by Lubnor, in Ceará.
The re-refining industry contributed 128,516 m3., equivalent to 14% of the market.
Issue 83 of the Lubes em Foco magazine will bring a complete article on the analysis of the first half of the Brazilian lubricant market.
